May 20, 2020 by Austin McDaniel What about antibody/serology testing? Serology tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies have not been clinically verified to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection. The antibody response in infected patients remains largely unknown, and the clinical value of antibody testing has not been fully demonstrated. False-positive results can occur due to past or recent infection with non-SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strains that cause the common cold. Further research is needed to understand how this test can be utilized for surveillance purposes to understand disease prevalence in the community.
